CLEAN AND GREEN TEAM

River City Company and Volkswagen are proud to present the Downtown Clean and Green Team.

Businesses big and small will take ownership of a downtown block(s) by engaging in some or all of the following activities on a quarterly basis:
• Collection of litter
• Pressure-washing the sidewalks
• Planting flowers and taking care of existing green vegetation
• Reporting of graffiti, broken windows, vandalism, dirty bus stops, etc.
• Planting trees and improving tree canopy in downtown, or pruning existing trees.

Benefits of a Clean and Green Program

By working together in this initiative, participants will demonstrate that businesses, residents, nonprofits, and individuals can come together for a common good and make a tremendous impact on the community. Besides the obvious benefit of a cleaner and greener downtown, the Clean and Green program will also:

• Improve the quality of life in our downtown. The appearance of our community contributes to the quality of life we all share.
• Increase civic engagement. An area watched and cared for by concerned citizens promotes community pride and creates advocates for this cause.
• Support economic development efforts. An attractive, clean community is a great asset in attracting new businesses, jobs, and customers.
• Increase awareness of environmental issues. Chattanoogans will have heightened consciousness of taking care of the earth that will reach further than just downtown.

Clean and Green Program Coverage Area

The Clean and Green program will cover the entire downtown footprint, encompassing the Northshore, Riverfront, Central Business District, MLK/UTC, and Southside areas of downtown.

Clean and Green Volunteer Days

Clean and Green volunteer days are currently scheduled for, Saturday, April 16, 2011 and Saturday, September 10, 2011 from 8:30am – 12pm, and Saturday, November 12, 2011. Team check-in will begin at 8:00am at the Waterhouse Pavilion in Miller Plaza.
